The first step in mold abatement is to identify the source, without knowing and removing the source of the mold growth it will return. Before beginning the cleaning process it is necessary to establish a containment area with negative pressure to prevent the spores from traveling to unaffected areas. Moldy items must be removed; simply killing the mold is not enough. Even dead mold spores can colonize once reintroduced to water. To assist in prevention of future mold growth the affected area will be treated with an anti-microbial agent.
